I’ve decided every dozenth issue is for follow-ups.
A more sophisticated successor to the Beet Box that was featured in Newsletter 5, musical artist MEZERG plays a flower-based synthesizer. I like how he squeezes the roses for the sweeps. Buy the album if it’s your thing.
Two highlights from Antique and Classic Photographic Images, February 2011. I shared some January 2011 picks in my very first issue.
Don’t miss that Dragnet storyline that started with a reported kidnapping. Things have escalated, and Joe Friday’s breaking out the good stuff. These are from February 23-25, 1953.
This link goes to just the Dragnet strips, updated daily. Here’s one more from the 18th with fun art.
New music: Double Dutch by Boog Brown (featuring Nolan the Ninja). (Bandcamp or Spotify or YouTube). Rapping begins 30 seconds in. This is not a follow-up; I just think it’s good and I’m running out of time to include it.
New old music: Carole King’s song So Far Away by Lake Street Dive. (YouTube). Turns out it was the 50th anniversary of Tapestry recently. To understate the case somewhat, that’s a good album.
(Lake Street Dive's new singles are linked in Newsletter 9.)
Thematically related and with a similar appeal: Rivers and Roads by The Head and the Heart (Spotify).
Old music: Never Believe by Figure 5 (2010). (Bandcamp or Spotify or YouTube). I searched for music called “figure 5” for Newsletter 10 and found more good things than I bargained for, including this never-was rock outfit that put out three good songs ten years ago.
I love that Blumenfeld photo, with the extreme definition of the hands.
