Everything on the internet is a mile deep; I’ve fished out some neutrally buoyant trash from around the midpoint.
Lauren “Iguanamouth” Dawson draws fun pictures; you might have seen her gryphons, or, alarmingly, her deep sea mermaids. This series here features dragons with unusual hoards. There are many of these, all delightful.
I subscribe to lots of things, but only the best are allowed to occupy space in my email inbox. Garbage Day is a three-times-a-week roundup of the weird stuff that floats to the top of various social media sites, plus some analysis of what (the fuck) is going on in internet culture. It’s the best.
Diberkato (twitter, instagram) is a Brazilian artist. They sell NFTs, which would ordinarily be a strike against them, but I figure cyberpunk artists get a pass on their participation in our mutually assured techno-doom. Buy prints instead though.
New music: Terry Gross by Dessa. (Website or Spotify or YouTube). Six months of singles assembled into a phenomenal 6-song EP. My other favorites are Talking Business, which is a song about a crime, and Rome, which is probably the catchiest and cleverest of the six, a lyrical showcase.
New music: Walshy Fire Presents: Naomi Cowan - StarGirl Mixtape. (SoundCloud or YouTube). Here’s what’s up with this mixtape.
Naomi Cowan is “your Paradise Plum, the princess of reggae.” Her new album Star Girl (latest single: Lucky Me) is a collaboration with Walshy Fire, master producer and 1/3 of prominent Jamaican DJ crew Major Lazer. (That last link: three billion views.)
This 47 minute mixtape is not that album. This mixtape is Major Lazer and a bunch of other producers remixing that album, with Naomi adding some new vocals. It’s real good.
Old music: Hey Pocky A-Way by The Meters (1974). (Spotify or YouTube). Classic funk.
