We’re here at a multiple of twelve, which means it’s time for a follow-up issue! These 8 artists have all been featured here before, and they’ve put out more music since then.
Here’s the Special Music Edition. These tracks range from 16 million views on YouTube to, like, 78.
Beach Bunny’s newest single, Cloud 9, features Tegan & Sara. Spotify or YouTube. (previously in Newsletter 1)
I am going to see Beach Bunny in November!
Wax Tailor just released an instrumental version of their latest album, for fans of modern trip-hop production who don’t like words. Spotify or YouTube. (previously in Newsletter 1)
I won a contest among buyers of (New York folk singer) Juliet Quick’s EP, and she sent me this lovely cross stitch of one of her lyrics! (previously in Newsletter 2)
As featured in issues 1, 12, and 24, my favorites of Antique and Classic Photographic Images from ten years ago.
“Boatmen, Croissy” is a picture of some people and also a couple little dogs. They seem like they might have been pretty cool. "Early tennis player" has a lot of charm to it. "Bleuets, solarisation" is a different use of the same technique we saw back in issue 12. Here, finally, is a picture of Madrid.
Jhariah cites as inspirations Tech N9ne, The Dresden Dolls, and Panic! at the Disco, (and a million others) and I get it, but really he is up to his own thing. (previously in Newsletter 3)
ABOVE: Pressure Bomb (remastered) on YouTube or Bandcamp.
BELOW: Debt Collector on Spotify or YouTube or BandCamp.
Maladjusted folk-punkers LocalNewsLegend have copped early Neutral Milk Hotel’s production vibe and a bad attitude, and they’re not afraid to use either of them. This song is 44 seconds long.
They also put out an album of Mountain Goats covers since I last talked about them; if that seems good to you, I assure you that it is. (previously in Newsletter 4)
UPSAHL is a pop artist who writes bangers about hot girl problems. Here’s one, and then also the “stripped” version of it in which the artist assembles a new mix of the track before your very eyes.
Check out her YouTube channel, which is a truly remarkable piece of marketing and promotion. Every track is released 3 or 4 times (official audio! lyrics video! official video! stripped!), and we’re treated to little snippets of her life, private and public.
(previously in Newsletter 7, and as a guest in Newsletter 15)
That psych-western album by Night Beats, Outlaw R&B, is out and it’s fantastic. Bandcamp or Spotify or YouTube. (previously in Newsletter 11)
Also, the psych-surf album by TEKE::TEKE, Shirushi, is out, and it’s also fantastic. Fans of psych rock are encouraged to try both. Bandcamp or Spotify or YouTube. (previously in Newsletter 18)
Please send me links to new music that you like.
